विष्णु धर्मोत्तर ग्रंथ में बताया कि  जिनके परिवार में ज्यादा बीमारी .....जल्दी-जल्दी किसी की मृत्यु हो जाती है वे लोग मार्गशीर्ष मास में शुक्ल पक्ष के दशमी तिथि के दिन  (दशमी तिथि के स्वामी यमराज है मृत्यु के देवता | ) याने १२ दिसम्बर २०१३ भगवान धर्मराज यमराज का मानसिक पूजन कर और हो सके तो घी की आहुति दे | एक दिन पहले से हवन की छोटी सी व्यवस्था कर लेना घी से आहुति डाले इससे दीर्घायु, आरोग्य और ऐश्वर्य तीनों की वृद्धि होती है विष्णु धर्मोत्तर ग्रंथ में बताया है | आहुति डालते समय ये मंत्र बोले–

  [ ध्यान रखे जिसके घर में तकलीफे है वो जरुर आहुति डाले और डालते समय स्वहा बोले और जो आहुति न डाले तो वो नम: बोले | ]
ॐ यमाय  नम:
ॐ धर्मराजाय  नम:
ॐ मृत्यवे नम:
ॐ अन्तकाय  नम:
ॐ कालाय  नम:

ये पाँच मंत्र बोले ज्यादा देर तक आहुति डाले तो भी अच्छा है |
अकाल मृत्यु घर में न हो, जल्दी-जल्दी किसी की मृत्यु न हो उसके लिए घर में अमावस्या के दिन गीता का सातवां अध्याय पढना चाहिये | पाठ पूरा हो जाय तो सूर्य भगवान को अर्घ्य देना चाहिये कि हमारे घर में सबकी लंबी आयु हो और जो पहले गुजर गये है हे भगवान उनकी आत्मा को शांति दे और आज के गीता पाठ का पुण्य ये उनको पहुँचे | ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय करके वो जल चढ़ा दे |
और हो सके तो ....भगवान ने पैसा दिया हो थोडा बहुत तो उस अमावस्या को गरीब बच्चों – बच्चीयो को चार–पाँच बच्चों को खाना देकर आये सब्जी-रोटी थोडा कुछ मीठा हलावा बना ले थोडा-सा गरीब बच्चों को दे आये | सेवा भी हो जायेगी और जो गुजर गये है वो हम पर राजी हो जायेंगे |

Vishnu Dharm-uttar Granth has mentioned, those homes suffering from excessive diseases... accidental deaths... should offer mental prayers to Lord Dharmaraaj Yamraaj and give oblations of ghee on the tenth day of Shukla (Moon waxing period) paksha of Margshirsh month. Make all arrangements for preparing a small pyre the day before, then offering oblations of ghee imparts all three boons, long life, good health and glory.Such has been exclaimed in Vishnu Dharm-uttar Granth. While offering oblations, recite the following mantra -

[Remember those who are having problems at home must offer oblations. Those offering oblations must say 'Swaha' at the end of mantras else others must say 'Namah'.]

AUM YAMAAYA NAMAH
AUM DHARMARAAJAYA NAMAH
AUM MRUTYAVE NAMAH
AUM ANTAKAAYE NAMAH
AUM KAALAYE NAMAH

It is better to offer as many oblations as possible using these mantras.

Even in those homes where there have not been any accidental deaths should recite the seventh chapter of Bhagwad Gita on every Amavasya. Once the recitation is over, offer oblations to Sun God requesting for long life for members of the family and granting peace to those departed souls who have passed away earlier. Then, offer the virtues of Gita recitation to those departed souls. Offer water to them saying "AUM NAMO BHAGAVATE VAASUDEVAYA"

If Lord has granted you a lot of money, then you can also feed some children on the eve of Amavasya, say some roti-vegetables along with some sweets. Then, you would have done some seva and also receive the blessings of the departed souls.
